Hello Dental Managers Society! My name is Brittany Davis and I work for Dr. Karla Alvarado of Plymouth Orthodontics; a beautiful new practice off Rt. 3 that just opened late 2018. This past December, Dr. Alvarado and I met by chance at a holiday fair in Plymouth while promoting her business to the local community. Through an organic, casual conversation, Dr. Alvarado asked if I would be interested in setting up a formal interview at her office. On Christmas eve, she called and offered me a job! Fate!

As a graduate from UMass Dartmouth, my degree is in Marketing. My background ranges from working for the government at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, RI, to advertising sales with iHeart Radio, to most recently direct sales with the health & wellness Arbonne. I believe my range of experience with a business minded, yet creative personality is what caught Dr. Alvarado’s attention!

Although we are a new practice and I a new employee, I can honestly say my favorite part of my job is working beside Dr. Alvarado. You can tell the moment you meet her how passionate she is about helping people. She is incredibly genuine and allows all patients to instantly feel like they are at home. Walking into an orthodontist as a kid can be terrifying- and she just gets it. I fully believe in this practice, because I believe in her!

As for my least favorite part of the job… I’ll preach to the choir with this one… I mean, who ACTUALLY enjoys calling insurance companies?!

As Plymouth Orthodontics gets up and running, my biggest challenge thus far is simply learning the order of operations—and that each patient, each case will be different! As the practice grows, each member of our team needs to wear several different hats from time to time and we are very fortunate Dr. Alvarado is intelligent… AND patient!

As a new manager, the best advice I got was to be sure to get even more information than you think you need and document everything! And don’t be too shy to ask for help when you need it.

One thing people are surprised to find out about me is that up until recently, I was always VERY shy, with an extreme fear of public speaking. From time to time I still get a bit anxious—but I am hoping my cold calling stage of life broke me out of that!

Dental Managers Society – and Pam especially (who waltzed into our Plymouth Orthodontics Ribbon Cutting celebration to invite me to join you all!) – thank you for not only making me feel included from the start, but for all the wisdom you share. I know the more I hear from you all, the more I will grow and in turn, allow our practice to grow. Thank you!!!
