Food insecurity is a very real problem, especially now. Families who were living comfortably before COVID are finding themselves without incomes as some industries are hit hard with layoffs and business closings.

Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States, estimates that 17 million people in the country could become food insecure because of the pandemic, bringing the total to more than 54 million people in the country, including 18 million children. Before COVID-19, food insecurity was at its lowest since the Great Recession, but it still impacted 37 million people.

If you have the ability to help your neighbors by donating to your local Food Pantry, we urge you to do so.

Pam’s Cousin Nancy in North Carolina shared on this idea on Facebook.  It’s a reverse “Advent Calendar” list where you add an item to a box destined for your local food pantry and donate it at the end of the month.  Pick up a few items each time you go grocery shopping.  Or, add them to your list of groceries you have delivered.  You don’t have to follow the list exactly; buy what’s on sale, check your own pantry, get the kids involved.
