After what seems like forever, Apple is finally holding an iPad-focused press event. The “Let Loose” event is scheduled for today, May 7. The last iPad release was in October 2022, which seems like forever in the technology world.
The online-only event is expected to reveal new iPad Pro and iPad Air models, as well as tablet accessories, including a new Apple Pencil and “Magic Keyboard”. Both devices are likely to be compatible with the new tablets. The Magic Keyboard could be made of aluminum, making it more durable than previous models. It may also have a larger trackpad area. The new Apple Pencil is expected to be a successor to the Apple Pencil 2 and offer more features than the Apple Pencil USB-C released last year. Apple Pencil rumors mention interchangeable magnetic tips and a “squeeze gesture”.
Titled ‘Let Loose,’ Apple will be live streaming the launch, which suggests it’ll be a significant one, with the Cupertino crew having plenty to show off; we’re not expecting much beyond new tablets, so be ready for new software demonstrations, though surprises definitely aren’t out of the question.
More expensive OLED technology will likely translate into price hikes for both 2024 iPad Pro models. At least one rumor suggests the bigger of the two could start at $1,500, compared to the $1,100 Apple charges for the least expensive 2022 12.9-inch iPad Pro model. However, with the price of everything else going up, perhaps we should be expecting this increase.
REMEMBER – all of this information is from the Apple rumor mill – today’s event should firm everything up for all of us.
The main image for the event features a hand twirling an Apple Pencil amid a colorful Apple logo, so expect there to be a focus on using iPads for creativity, likely with a new and enhanced Pencil. And rumors suggest that the Apple Vision Pro will get Pencil support; if so, expect Apple to tout the creation of digital art within a virtual and mixed reality environment.
The event kicks off at 7am PT / 10am ET
The easiest way to watch the live stream will be on YouTube, where Apple currently has a holding page where you can set a reminder to get notified of when the stream starts. But you can also watch the Apple event on the company’s website and on the Apple TV app.
