From a Boston Dental Peeps post “I keep seeing people post about wearing earpieces and using walkies… who’s doing this? And why?”
Michelle Schaeffer “We do. We have a long office. It’s an easier way to communicate. We have done it for years but it really comes in handy now with patients waiting in their cars. The front desk radios us when the patient calls they are in the parking lot. If we are not ready, we tell them to call the patient back in 5 mins to come in. Then once the patient is in and had their temp taken, they let us know the patient is ready. Also, we let the doc know if we are ready for an exam and radio the front if we have an insurance question.”
Michell is a hygienist for Dr. Jeffrey Anderson’s practice in Hingham. I contacted her to get more information and she said, “The walkie talkies have an earpiece and a little button we wear under our coats. We simply press to talk. It helps us easily communicate with the dentist when we need an exam, especially if they were not projected to need one or they are in a hurry. We can also communicate with the front desk easily about insurance or our next patient.”
Michelle also told me about a video that she posted on the practice’s Facebook page. In the video, she describes the new process that patients will be experiencing while she gives them a tour. This must ease patient fears! Have a question for Michelle? Click HERE to email her.
