October 13, 2017 – It was a double treat for the Ocean State Chapter as two speakers presented very different topics!
Alicia Piazza of Custom Marketing Solutions spoke about Social Media, especially Facebook marketing.
Why use Facebook for marketing? Of the top reasons:
#2 – It’s the new “Word of Mouth”
#1 – Your clients and future clients are on Facebook!
But, to make it work, you need:
- Strategy
- Planning
- Creativity
- Dedication
All this work is worth the ROR (Return on Relationship)
Alicia gave 5 ways to gain followers
- Cross promote
- Put your social icons everywhere – on your email, business card, website, etc
- Create email campaigns directed to your social media accounts
- Use your email list to promote your Facebook account
- Run a “Like” campaign, especially with a prize
Alicia also suggested that paid ads can target your audience but don’t use the “Boost Post” button – Log into the Business Manager feature on Facebook where you can better chose your marketing objectives and target them on Facebook.

Our 2nd speaker was DMS favorite (and Sponsor) Attorney Helene Horne Figman
As usual, I filled a page of notes, especially since ACTSmart is in the process of hiring two new techs!
Helene suggested that we look at our job descriptions with our applicants to be sure that they are able to perform all of the necessary functions. These job descriptions should include the “essential functions” of the position, clearly stating the requirements including skills, education and physical demands.
(We hired Helene to perform our annual Harassment Policy Review and Anti-Discrimination Policy Review at our annual team meeting in November as well as a full review of our Office Policy Manual.
