Smileboston South Shore believes, Confidence Begins with a Great Smile. Having taken over another office in 2012, they had many challenges. Eleven months ago, when Tricia Hurley joined this practice as Dental Manager without dental experience was  ”interesting, to say the least.” Over the last 8 months, they have updated their office in structure as well as the philosophy that the previous patients were used to for more than 20 years.

Smileboston works specifically to create “the Smileboston Experience” as they believe highly in training their team to communicate better with patients from their first call, to the moment they walk out the door. Smileboston South Shore boasts the latest advancements in dental technology including large full mouth rehabilitation with dental lasers, CT Scanner, 3D laser impressions, endodontic microscope, large screen monitors in each operatory, and more.

Although Tricia did not previously have experience in a dental office prior to starting at Smileboston South Shore, she was very well prepared by her previous career in human resource management as well as luxury retail. She’s also a medical esthetician and makeup artist. A common thread is her commitment to deliver outstanding customer service. Likewise, she feels right at home in her new career at Smileboston.

So, how did she start in dentistry? Tricia told us, “Although I had never considered the dental field, I was recruited by a Smileboston team member who I had worked with previously in luxury retail. Customer service and people skills transcend from the retail world to the customer service we provide patients at Smileboston. It has been a great deal to learn in the past year and I’m thoroughly enjoying the challenge each day brings. Each day is different and I LOVE my job and my team!”  “The favorite part of my job is working with our patients and our amazing team.  My least favorite is seeing a disappointed patient.  Of course, we have had very few of those!”

“My biggest challenge has been learning about dentistry in general and dealing with insurance. Not having a background in dentistry makes it challenging at times. However, my doctors and team are amazing at guiding me through the insurance pitfalls and providing me with much needed dental knowledge.”

“I’m a new member to the Dental Managers Society and I have found it to be a great networking tool for me. The other members’ contribute tremendously and make great suggestions at the monthly meetings.”

When asked what her Words of Sage Wisdom for a practice administrator would be, she said, “Listen to your team and patients. Be non-reactive, calm, and supportive when a patient or team member comes to you with a question or concern.”

Tricia has already been an invaluable contributor to the Dental Managers Society and we’re thrilled to have her as a member!
