Lexi and I first met Nancy when we stopped into her Plymouth office to say Hi and introduce ourselves. It wasn’t long before ACTSmart took over the technology services for Morlan Dental.

Getting to know Nancy and to follow her career has been fun! Nancy tells us that her first dental practice was at Harvey Katz & Associates in Plymouth almost 15 years ago. When Dr. Katz retired, Dr Olex bought the practice and Nancy, with the help of Summit Dental, helped transform the practice. Nancy then joined Dr. Morlan’s practice in 2009.  Nancy says, “The staff was eager to consistently update technology and so we did! We switched our IT provider to ACT Smart to ensure we were supported properly.   That proved to be a wonderful decision as our server died shortly after and we never worried!  They took care of it all!!!”

Always looking for new challenges, Nancy decided to try a job in sales and joined Solutionreach in 2014.

“After providing a Solutionreach Lunch and Learn at Duxbury Dental Associates, we discussed how they were in need of a manager to run the practice. Without one for over six years, in October 2016 I began working as their Practice Manager – the best choice I could’ve made! I absolutely love it here!  Every day is a learning experience!  The staff has been overly welcoming and open to all suggestions!  My first change – ACT Smart for IT! Next change was the website by MediaRight and collections with Debt Management Inc!   We are updating consistently now in all areas while increasing production and meeting goals earlier than expected.” Nancy explained.

“My favorite part of my job is watching the practice grow, not only in production, but new systems put in place, and new technology. I enjoy meeting patients and watching little ones grow, hearing their stories, and seeing how happy they are when they leave!“ “What is the least favorite part of my job?  I would have to say the insurance companies and how they seem to “control” treatment acceptance.  At DDA we advise and educate patients with the best treatment possible, not allowing insurance companies to dictate what is ‘eligible’ or ‘within their guidelines of frequency’. “

As the Practice Manger of 23 employees, her biggest challenge is having everyone on the same page and willing to move forward with change.

As you can see, Nancy is very experienced, and it isn’t just dental. She’s been a Court Reporter, Bus Driver, Portfolio Administrator, Legal Secretary, Waitress and more while taking care of her two children.

Nancy’s advice, “If you are a new Practice Manager, learn, learn, learn all you can whether it be at Yankee, through the Dental Manager Society, Lunch & Learns, your supply reps or with your staff. Ask questions!  It’s imperative to have a working knowledge of what procedures are, what the assistants do, hygienists do, insurance issues, etc. Keep up to date with technology and be sure to network with other office managers to see different techniques on how to handle various situations.  The more comfortable you are with the concepts, the better you’ll be!”
